Conference Venue

CNR Headquarters in Rome

This year, for the 8th APECS Italy National Conference, we will be hosted at the CNR headquarters in Rome (Piazzale Aldo Moro 7), located between the University Campus and the Air Force buildings. This location houses the President's Office, the General Directorate, the Central Administration and a conference hall in which the event will take place.

In continuity with a major event

1st National Polar Conference, "Poles of Knowledge: From Extreme Lands to Global Challenges"

This year, the APECS Italy Conference will be even more special: it will be part of a major event dedicated to the entire Italian polar research community, organized by the CNR in collaboration with some of the leading national institutions involved in the study of the polar regions.
On October 5-7, 2026, the First National Polar Conference will be held at the same venue as our conference. This initiative aims to create a structured forum for discussions between the scientific community, institutions, and stakeholders, aimed at strengthening national coordination and contributing to the definition of a shared vision for the future of polar research. One of the key themes of this event will be the training and development of young researchers.
The continuity between the two events represents an extraordinary opportunity for our association and all its members, fostering opportunities for discussion, networking and scientific exchange with leading figures in polar research. As for previous editions, the conference will be focused on presentations by APECS members and young researchers, to show their work and share experiences, ideas, and perspectives related to polar sciences.

General theme 2026

Polar Anniversaries

100 years ago, in 1926, the airship "Norge", designed in Italy and piloted by Umberto Nobile, Roald Amundsen and Lincoln Ellsworth, made the first flyover of the north pole. 80 years ago marked the beginning of Operation Highjump, which was the largest American expedition in Antarctica, guided by Admiral Richard E. Byrd.

The event will be enriched by the participation of experts in the field, who will contribute with high-level presentations, making the two days an important opportunity for discussion and scientific exploration on this topic.

Participation

Information for Speakers and Audiences

Individual presentations by participants will be free-topic (i.e., they may be unrelated to the conference theme but must relate to polar sciences) and are a great networking chance. Sharing any results obtained is at the discretion of the individual participant.

The conference is free and held in English. Only applications by students, PhD students, post-docs and research fellows who are Italian or affiliated with an Italian institution will be considered.
We especially invite participants in the earth, life, chemical, physical, and humanities sciences to present their research topic or project.
Of course, the invitation to attend is also open to all enthusiasts or anyone who would like to learn more about recent scientific efforts in polar sciences.
